Westdale Forest Stumpage Sale

Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) are seeking expressions of interest from parties wishing to participate in a competitive sale process for their tree crop, located at Westdale Rd, Redwood Valley, Tasman District. The sale is of approximately 4.05 hectares (ha) of Pinus Radiata and 0.4 ha Eucalyptus spp.

The forest is well situated to take advantage of domestic processing options in and near Nelson and the export market at Port Nelson. Immediate harvest is preferred, with an expectation to complete by 30th June 2022.

Key information:

  • P. radiata Stumpage - Approximately 2.15 ha planted in circa 1980 and 1.9 ha regen established in circa 1997. The former has been managed to a framing regime the latter is untended.

  • Stocking and piece size are variable. No tending information is available.

  • Interested parties will be required to confirm their own map boundaries. We have supplied an indicative map for guidance only.

  • Terrain is rolling to flat, 100% located in the Green ESC zone.

  • Location is close to a public road providing easy access. There is already some existing internal tracking in place. Some minor investment in new infrastructure may be required, subject to selected harvest methodology.

  • There is no inventory available. Interested parties are welcome to inspect the forest upon appointment only. LINZ safety protocols will be required to be strictly observed.

  • Some local authority consenting may be needed subject to planning and harvest intentions.

  • Westdale Forest is located within 10 – 12Km of several large log processors near Nelson. Export outlet is approximately 25Km from the forest at Port Nelson, thus providing a full range of domestic and export marketing options.

  • The forest is mostly second rotation and therefore most has been logged previously.

  • Powerlines run along Westdale road and within 2 tree lengths of forest boundary at eastern end

  • Traffic management may be required on State Highway 60 for approximately 640m where harvesting within 2 tree lengths of the road.

  • Approximately 340 metres of fences bound the forest on the highway and neighboring boundaries.

  • There is a sealed right of way along half of the northern border

  • There are four houses within 80m of the northern boundary which access via private right of way.

  • A Telecom network cable is buried alongside the State Highway
